I just get a prompt with showing a device with a long number for its name and then XP asks for the driver.
#Motu 828 mkii firewire audio interface drivers
Thing is, doing the exact same thing under Windows XP SP3 didn't work!! If I had the 1394b drivers enabled, it wouldn't even detect the right MOTU device when I turn it on.
#Motu 828 mkii firewire audio interface install
Once connected, and I powered on the MOTU, I immediately saw that the ExpressCard detected it and prompted to install each MOTU audio driver. It seemed to work under Vista, and I could install both 1394a and 1394b drivers, while still able to install the drivers for my MOTU 828 MkII audio interface. I recently tried a Siig Firewire 800 ExpressCard to see if that would work. Also, why not go 6-pin (Motu) to 4-pin direct to the built-in firewire port on the Dell? Either the cardbus or the interface has to be plugged into the wall/power strip. Keep in mind, however, that you cannot run an audio interafce on bus power alone if you are using a cardbus. I don't know what the case it with your MOTU unit, but your problem sounds similar. It's a general probolem not associated with Dell. I know some people have tried using the TC with a cardbus-no luck. I'm running a TC Konnect from its 6-pin to my 4-pin on the Dell and have to plus in the power supply. I can tell you this, however-a lot of audio interfaces don't like cardbusses, in my experience. Point 1)is interesting, since you're not having problems with the Belkin card and yoru firewire drive (are you running FW800?). However, I've heard two things: 1) Compatibility issues between Dell Inspirons and the Belkin FW800 card 2) SIIG cards not supporting the Oxford chipset that Lacie uses.

I want to use a LaCie with FW800 as my primary recording drive, and therefore want a FW800 expresscard. I'm replying here, becuase my question is realted to a DAW, too. So, I search the forum-lots of questions like mine, but no replies.

Hi, I had a somewhat similar question about Expresscard and Firewire compatibility with a Dell Inspiron.
